Bass Fishing at Seasons Point
Posted by: Nath in Session Reports (Devon) on Aug 17, 2009
After seeing Curt’s post in the fishing buddies section of the forum, myself and Adam (who’d just joined the site that very same day) jumped on board and partook in the session down at Seasons Point (a nice little mark on the western side of the entrance to the Yealm estuary.)
By the time Curt and I arrived at the mark, Adam was down there and had already managed to winkle out a Bass on frozen sand eel. A promising start, I thought!
Unfortunately, after we were all in and fishing, things were definitely off the boil. Takes were few and far between around the afternoon high tide and all our efforts produced just 1 Ballan Wrasse just under the 2lb mark (caught on my bass rig! *Ahem*)
Adam left shortly after since he could only make it for a pair of hours, but Curt and I continued until just after dusk.
As seems to be the general trend for this particular mark, we were hoping for a bit more action during the second half of the ebb – and sure enough, 3 hours down the tide, Bang! Curt got a cracking take on his pulley rig baited with lugworm.
After a bit of a dodgy clamber down to the water’s edge, he returned to our tripods with a triumphant grin and a 2lb Bass. Good effort! I then quickly switched back from mackerel and peelers to the good ol’ lugworm in the hope of a third Bass to add to our tally (I was starting to feel a little left out! Lol)
Shortly after, there was a third Bass – again from Curt. Despite being slightly smaller this time at just over a pound, it was still cracking to see them coming in and to know they were still on the feed. Sadly, as dusk fell our time was up and we had to embark on the jaunt back over to Wembury and head home. All good things come to an end at some point I guess :(
Anyhow, having not been out for a while (and not knowing that I would have made it out that day) it was great to get a session in, fish it in fine company and see some Bass come in, too. What a cracking afternoon.
