Why the reference to that irritatingly catchy song by The Proclaimers I hear you asking? Well, that's what it feels like I have done this weekend. All my well laid plans to go and explore a couple of marks near Fowey were shot down early doors by an ear infection. I didn't want to potentially ruin the day by being a wimp and coming home early if it got too bad so I decided to save that trip for another weekend. That being said, the aforementioned ear infection behaved itself in the end which was just as well as I ended up walking a decent stretch of the south-west coastal path from Stoke Point around to Old Cellars Beach, before catching up with Jack for a night session off Lions Den on the Hoe.

After 3 manic months scouring Cornwall, Devon and Dorset for fish, racking up almost 8,000 miles and getting up at some un-Godly times just to get to various marks, I am taking what I believe is a well deserved week off from fishing and blogging. I'll be retreating to my summer training camp to get into peak physical and mental shape ahead of the eagerly anticipated SWSF shore competition on the 17th July!

Contrary to what you may have thought, this post is not about an affliction caught by some poor, unfortunate sailor on shore leave, it is in fact another weekend session report. Still euphorically bouncing and with a distinct swagger in my walk after last weekend's bass and smooth hound, I thought that I would get out again and try and continue my "hot" streak. However like a player at the tables in Las Vegas fresh from a big win, fate has a way of bringing you back down to earth with a bang.............

The fishing in Devon has a reputation as having some of the best fishing in the south west, some may say some of the best fishing in the country. So good is the sport down here, more and more anglers are choosing to go on fishing holidays in Devon. Devon Fishing holidays are becoming more popular year on year.

Plymouth based anglers have got it made. The sea fishing in Plymouth, Devon is second to none and offers much to both the boat and shore fisherman. With so many places to fish in and around Plymouth, a good fishing mark in Plymouth is never far away.

I managed to get out again last night to have a fish with
Mike and
Mike at North Corner, Devonport. We all pitched up about 6pm to a rather busy pontoon (probably about 4 other anglers already there) to fish the first part of the ebb and fished through till dark, so around 9:00 pm.
From what I could gather from the lads already down there, the fishing had been pretty slow all afternoon (at that point no-one had managed to catch anything) so I began with a scratch around tight to the pontoon in an attempt to find a few Pollack or wrasse or whatever. Baitwise, the options were limited since I only brought down a handful of ragworm left over from my previous session at Season Point the day before accompanied by a couple of mackerel I had knocking about in the freezer.

With things slowly getting back to normal here, yesterday I managed to get in the first session in over a fortnight. By god it was good to get back out again – 2 weeks without fishing is 2 weeks too long!
After seeing Curt’s post in the fishing buddies section of the forum, myself and Adam (who’d just joined the site that very same day) jumped on board and partook in the session down at Seasons Point (a nice little mark on the western side of the entrance to the Yealm estuary.)
By the time Curt and I arrived at the mark, Adam was down there and had already managed to winkle out a Bass on frozen sand eel. A promising start, I thought!

Despite my lack of reports recently, the shore fishing sessions have still been going ahead and what a month July has turned out to be!
It's been all about the Bass - in fact, I can’t ever remember another month when the Bass fishing has been so good.
